Scalpel Meets Algorithm: AI Tools for Surgical Data

Most of us have sat in front of a messy spreadsheet and spent hours trying to make sense of it. Inconsistent entries, missing values, dates written five different ways and that's before you even get to the analysis.

This session is about changing that. We'll show you how AI tools can take a clinical dataset the kind you'd get from a ward audit or a departmental review and turn it into something you can actually work with. Then we'll go further: finding patterns, answering clinical questions, and even drafting a results paragraph for a conference abstract. Live, in front of you, no code required.

This is not a lecture about what AI can theoretically do. It's a hands-on demonstration using real-world surgical data, and by the end you'll have a workflow you can use the very next day.

Your Presenter

Wibonela A. Walid is the Surgical Skills Lab Manager and Instructor at MUHAS, a Data Scientist and Biostatistician, and the CEO of Naseeha Digital a mobile application that connects doctors with patients. He brings together clinical training, data science, and practical AI experience in a session designed specifically for surgical teams.

The session will be facilitated by Dr. Nashivai Kivuyo, Surgeon, Senior Lecturer at MUHAS and Former MAT President, and moderated by Dr. Rajab Msemo, General Surgeon at Muhimbili National Hospital.

About the Surgical Skills Training Lab, MUHAS

The Surgical Skills Training Lab at MUHAS, Dar es Salaam is a hands-on training facility open to all Surgeons. The lab offers structured training in vascular access and open vascular surgery, alongside a full laparoscopic surgery curriculum that takes participants from the basics all the way through to advanced procedures including anastomosis and cholecystectomy. Training runs both as scheduled cohorts and on an ongoing basis for those who want to build their skills at their own pace.
